Lisa Riffel is in her eighth year teaching choral music at Lincoln High School, and twelfth year of teaching. She teaches the Freshmen Leadership & Inquiry (FLI) Choir, Cardinal Choir, and Chamber Choir. After teaching elementary music in Glendale, California, she decided to further her education and moved to Oregon to study with Dr. Ethan Sperry at Portland State University where she received a masters of music in choral conducting. While studying at PSU, she served as the Music Education Graduate Teaching Assistant under the guidance of Debra Glaze. While serving in this position she taught a variety of university music classes including Intro to Conducting, Choir, Fundamentals of Music, and K-12 Vocal Techniques. Under Lisa's leadership, the Lincoln High School choir program has expanded and grown. Choirs have toured nationally and internationally, participated in district and state competitions, and become a close-knit community of students and friends who love to sing together.
Lisa is passionate about choral music both as a conductor, teacher, and singer. She sang in the award winning and internationally acclaimed Portland State Chamber Choir for four years, and currently sings with and assistant directs the Oregon Repertory Singers. As a teacher, Lisa's aim is to provide the best possible musical experience for her students and use choral singing as a way to create community, beauty, and joy. Lisa is happily married to Portland-area math teacher, Andrew Riffel, and together they love to travel, hike the beautiful trails in the area, and sing. This year they gave birth to their first child, Hazel.
