CHOIR COUNCIL
The choir council is a group of students who meet weekly during lunch to help create a successful choral program at Lincoln.  Responsibilities include planning events, concerts, community-building activities, and more. See below for more information.

President
The president of the choir serves as a liason between the students and teacher.  He/she assists Mrs. Riffel in various ways requested and provides strong musical and personal leadership in the group.  The president also is in charge of creating a council meeting agenda each week and following up with other officers to help them stay on track to meet the goals agreed upon by the group.

Vice President
The vice president is second in command after the president.  He/she assists the president in whatever way is requested. In the event that the president is absent, the vice president assumes presidential responsibilities.

Social Coordinator
The social coordinator is a welcoming and friendly face in the ensemble that helps bring everyone together.  He/she coordinates monthly social events and helps Mrs. Riffel plan icebreakers and activities for the retreat, tour, and throughout the school year.

Technician
The technician is responsible for all things technical at the choir concert.  How does the choir move from one place to the next? What kind of sound/amplification is needed? What kind of lighting is needed?

Graphic Designer
The graphic designer has an eye for design and knows how to use either Photoshop or an equivalent graphic design program.  They will be in charge of program and poster design for the various concerts as well as posters used for recruitment.

Communications Director
The communications director is responsible for managing communication within the choir and sometimes the external community.  They should feel comfortable writing informative emails to groups of people and speaking in front of audiences.  The communications director will have access to contact lists and our lincoln_choirs Instagram page.

Librarian
The librarian helps the choir stay organized by keeping track of sheet music, folders, “I forgot my music” binders, extra copies, etc.

Note:  More positions may be added at the beginning of the year pending the needs of the choir council.

SECTION LEADERS
Section leaders are strong musicians, singers, and leaders.   They should be equipped with some piano skills (enough to play a single part).  Section leaders are also positive, helpful, and encouraging.

Section leader responsibilities:
  • Attend a day-long leadership workshop in the fall.  This years' date is October 5.
  • Learn your part quickly by practicing at home
  • Listen to your section and help them figure out the correct notes and rhythms.  Don't be afraid to raise your hand and ask Mrs. Riffel to help your section when needed.
  • Make sure your section has and uses pencils to mark their music frequently.  Model this.
  • Plan and carry out a sectional at the fall choir retreat  (all section leaders must attend the fall choir retreat)
  • Hold extra lunchtime or in-class sectionals when needed - communicate with your section to ensure good attendance. Communicate with Mrs. Riffel about how each sectional goes.
  • Be an example for your section and for the choir in regard to following all rehearsal and behavioral expectations for the group.
